With Buffalo's help, Lions reclaim 1st place with 16-14 win
Matt Prater's 33-yard field goal with 3:38 remaining helped the Detroit Lions win their third game in a row with a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings. With the win, along with Buffalo defeating Green Bay, 21-13, the Lions (10-4) are back in first place in the NFC North and are currently a #2 seed in the NFC playoff picture.
Despite a slow offensive day, quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 153 yards and a touchdown for the Lions. Defense, however, brought life to the team as Glover Quin & Darius Slay intercepted Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater within seconds of each other. On special teams, Detroit's Jason Jones blocked Blair Walsh's 26-yard field goal attempt halfway through the 4th quarter, which set up Prater's third field goal of the game.
The Lions will look to defend their new position in the playoff picture when they travel to Chicago next week to face the Bears at 1 pm. At the same time, Green Bay will square off against the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay and Arizona, who currently holds the top spot in the NFC, will be home to do battle against Seattle at 8:30 pm ET.
