Dominik Hasek honored as Red Wings defeat Sabres, 3-1
Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 25 saves in his first start in place of injured starting goalie Jimmy Howard as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 3-1.
Darren Helm, Gustav Nyquist, and Tomas Tatar scored for the Red Wings, who have won three out of their last four games. Kyle Quincey contributed with two assists in the victory.
The Red Wings will remain on the road as they meet their old rivals in the St. Louis Blues this Thursday night at 8 pm.
The Red Wings & Sabres honored Hall of Fame goaltender Dominik Hasek by retiring his #39 jersey in a pregame ceremony. Hasek starred for Buffalo from 1992-01, winning six Vezina Trophies and consecutive Hart Memorial Trophies in 1997 and 1998, before being traded to Detroit, where he won the 2002 & 2008 Stanley Cup championships.
Hasek's number was painted behind both nets, and the goaltender matchup between Mrazek and Michael Neuvirth featured two natives of the Czech Republic. Hasek led his home country of the Czech Republic to a gold medal at the Nagano Winter Games in 1998, and last year, had his #9 jersey retired in his Czech Republic hometown of Pardubice.
From all Red Wings fans: Thank you, Dominator!
