1997 team honored befored Red Wings fall short to Sabres, 4-3
About 30 minutes before the game began, the Detroit Red Wings honored their 1996-97 Stanley Cup championship team, with appearances such as head coach Scotty Bowman, Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, and Vladimir Konstantinov.
Afterwards, however, that magical moment turned into another disappointing loss. Less than 30 seconds after Buffalo let Detroit tie the game, Evander Kane scored his second goal of the game to help the Sabres to a 4-3 over the Red Wings and get their head coach Dan Bylsma his 300th NHL victory.
The Wings will spend the beginning of a new year on the road as they travel to Ottawa this Thursday night at 8 pm before heading to Toronto to participate in the centennial game.
