Abdelkader & the Red Wings Foundation team up to teach 250 kids the fun of Floor Hockey
Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader will appear at Hill Elementary School in Troy, on Wednesday, February 23, during the Red Wings school youth hockey program. The event will take place from 1:30-3:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
Abdelkader will be joined by Red Wings radio play-by-play announcer Ken Kal to introduce 250 elementary students to the sport of hockey through a youth street and floor hockey initiative in which the Wings provide equipment and hands-on instruction to 20 local elementary schools throughout Metro Detroit. Each school will receive two full sets of floor hockey equipment complete with hockey sticks and goalie nets.
The Red Wings school youth hockey program, funded by the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, was launched back in October 2010 to encourage students to stay active and healthy through the sport of hockey.
The Detroit Red Wings Foundation is an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, a 501 (c)(3) organization. The Foundation invests in the future of our community by providing funds and resources to worthy causes that contribute to the growth of the sport of hockey.
