Early lead turns sour in 6th inning as Tigers fall to Reds, 12-5
In a makeup game that was postponed on June 18 due to rain, Brandon Phillips drove in four runs with a homerun and a triple during Cincinnati's 10-run 6th inning as the Reds came back from being down 5-0 to snap a nine-game losing streak with a 12-5 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Detroit sent all nine batters to the plate in a four-run 1st inning that featured J.D. Martinez's 33rd homerun, a two-run shot, and Nick Castellanos' 14th homerun. Starting pitcher Buck Farmer pitched 5 & 1/3 scoreless innings before the Reds exploded with 10 runs in the 6th inning.
Hoping to regroup from the meltdown, the Tigers return home to Comerica Park to face the Los Angeles Angels in a three-game series, which begins this Tuesday night at 7 pm.
