Strong 5th inning helps Tigers complete weekend sweep of Sox, 5-2
Starting pitcher Justin Verlander went seven strong innings as the Detroit Tigers swept the weekend series of the Chicago White Sox with a 5-2 victory.
Verlander (5-5) allowed homeruns to Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier, but only gave up five hits and a walk while striking out eight batters. Relief pitchers Shane Greene and Francisco Rodriguez finished out the game for Detroit, with Rodriguez picking up his 15th save.
The Tigers will look to continue their winning ways when they open a 3-game series against Toronto, starting with this Monday night at 7 pm.
