Red Wings blanked by Carolina, 3-0; Zetterberg injured

Cam Ward made 42 saves to lead the Carolina Hurricanes past Detroit, 3-0.

Jimmy Howard made 29 saves for the Central Division champion Red Wings, who lost star left winger Henrik Zetterberg to a lower-body injury.

Zetterberg, who collided with Carolina defenseman Bryan Allen midway through the first period, has a team-best 80 points and entered with 11 points in his previous 10 games. Coach Mike Babcock said Zetterberg would be evaluated after the team returns to Detroit.

Despite being shutout, the Red Wings still have a chance to move up in the Western Conference standings. With San Jose losing to Anaheim last night, Detroit remains one point behind the Sharks for second place. The Wings will have the opportunity to reclaim that spot with a win against Chicago this Friday night at the Joe Louis Arena, provided San Jose loses on the road to Phoenix later on that night.
