Tigers score six in the 7th as they beat Seattle, 8-3
Brandon Inge scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch from Seattle reliever Josh Lueke in the seventh inning, Jhonny Peralta later added a bases-clearing triple, and Max Scherzer remained unbeaten on the season as the Detroit Tigers rallied late for an 8-3 win over the Mariners.
Concerns raised again about the health of designated hitter Victor Martinez after he left the game in the second inning. Martinez tweaked his groin in his final at-bat on Saturday night against Oakland, then sat out on Sunday as a precaution.
Martinez dumped a single into right field in his first at-bat, but the groin was definitely causing problems as Martinez jogged gingerly down to first and then over to second base moments later on Brennan Boesch’s RBI single. Manager Jim Leyland and an athletic trainer Kevin Rand rushed out to Martinez who walked slowly back to the dugout.
The Tigers said Martinez’s strained groin would be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
