Verlander reaches 1,000 Ks as Tigers pound Sox, 9-3

Justin Verlander pitched seven impressive innings through a misty rain, and Ryan Raburn drove in four runs to lead the Tigers over the Chicago White Sox, 9-3. Without knowing, Verlander reached his milestone of 1,000 strikeouts against his final batter, A.J. Pierzynski, before he left after seven innings.

The start of the game was delayed 12 minutes because of rain, which was clearly visible up near Comerica Park's light fixtures for the first three innings and remained throughout the rest of the game, although it was never hard enough for another delay.

Among his four RBIs, Raburn hit a two-run homer in the 3rd innings for the Tigers, who have won seven straight over the White Sox.
