Rain can't save Tigers from getting stomped by Giants, 15-3
A bad night for Max Scherzer and a bad night for the Tigers' defense -- and then came the rain, which suprisingly did not postpone the game. It was one of those games where the Tigers needed a restart.
A heavy downpour doused the Tigers' game against the San Francisco Giants after the World Champions' offense pounded the Tigers for six runs in the first two-plus innings in a 15-3 drubbing of Detroit.
The game was delayed 2 hours & 36 minutes with the Giants having scored another run in the third and with baserunners on first and second with nobody out.
Scherzer (9-4) allowed five runs in the first inning, three of them unearned, as the Tigers continued to struggle against National League teams before a Comerica Park crowd that started out at 38,983. Those who remained were treated to home runs by Jhonny Peralta and Brennan Boesch.
The Mets and Giants have left Tigers pitching in shambles, scoring 51 runs in five games this week as Detroit has fallen 1 1/2 games out of first place in the American League Central.
