Guillen's return not enough as Sox shutout Tigers, 5-0
Guillen's return not enough as Sox shutout Tigers, 5-0
On a day where the Detroit Stars of the Negro Leagues were honored, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher & former Tiger Edwin Jackson blanked Detroit, 5-0, on a complete-game nine-hitter.
Second baseman Carlos Guillen got a standing ovation for several seconds as he came to bat for the Tigers for the first time since last August. Even though he was 1-for-4 coming off of knee surgery, Guillen made a nice play up the middle to flag a grounder by Mark Teahen and threw him out.
On a typical hot summer day, both teams paid tribute to the Negro Leagues at Comerica Park by wearing their respective Negro Leagues uniforms. Even White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen stated that American League players, who take a trip to Kansas City, should be required to go visit that city's Negro Leagues Museum.
