Jackson's HR good enough for Tigers to shutout Rays, 2-0
Detroit's pitching was outstanding in Tampa Bay by allowing six runs in the four games including Doug Fister's seven scoreless innings as the Tigers beat the Rays, 2-0
Austin Jackson, once again, came up big at the plate with both Detroit's runs. First a solo homerun, his 7th of the season, in the opening inning and a sacrifice fly to right scoring Ryan Rayburn in the fifth.
The story was Fister throwing 99 pitches and 63 of them where strikes with no walks & five strikeouts. Jose Valverde cleaned up in the ninth for his 38th straight save. Valverde in his last 10 appearances allowed just one earned run.
With Detroit now leading the AL Central by 6 1/2 games over Cleveland, they now turn their attention to the Twins for a 3-game weekend series. First game begins this Friday night at Target Field in Minnesota.
