Jose Valverde wins MLB's Delivery Man of the Year award
Detroit Tigers reliever Jose Valverde was named Major League Baseball’s Delivery Man of the Year.
The award, that recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher of the regular season, was bestowed upon Valverde Wednesday. It is decided by vote from a MLB panel.
Valverde went 2-4 with a 2.24 ERA while converting all over his 49 save opportunities during the 2011 season. His 49 save season established a Tigers single-season record, previously set by Todd Jones (42) in 2000.
