Pistons open new year with big win over Orlando, 89-78

Ben Wallace and Jason Maxiell became key factors as the Detroit Pistons opened 2012 with an 89-78 victory over the Orlando Magic at the Palace.

Maxiell scored all of the duo's nine points and the two combined for seven rebounds in 36 minutes. In addition, Wallace had a big night defense with five steals.

Orlando's Dwight Howard was able to score 19 points, but was held to only seven rebounds -- 10 below his average.

The Pistons were also able to prevent a huge night from three-point land by the Magic, with Orlando going a manageable 8-for-22 from downtown.
