Homecoming not pleasant for the Titans
On a night where all on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy celebrated their homecoming weekend, the Titans men's basketball team took a beatdown at the hands of the Butler Bulldogs, 87-64. In front of over 6,600 fans in attendance, the Titans were embarassed, due to Butler's Matt Howard, who lead his team with 17 points, including going 5-for-6 from 3-point range. Also shooting only 40% didn't help the Titans' cause either. The Titans trailed 42-20 at halftime and never could the ball rolling in their favor. Another factor that hurt Detroit was not having Eli Holman, with his inside presence, on the court. Due to a NCAA rule, since Eli was ejected from the game against UIC in Chicago last weekend, he was forced to skip a game because of it. The Titans were led by Chase Simon with 19 points, along with Chris Blake with 15 & Jason Calliste with 11, but it wasn't enough as they drop to 10-8 (4-2 in the Horizon League). The good news for the Titans is that Eli Holman is scheduled to suit up this Sunday when they take on Valparaiso at 1 pm inside Calihan Hall. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Detroit, which the Titans already have success on this channel this season.
