Red Wings open April with 2-1 shootout win against Florida
The Detroit Red Wings said good-bye to a dismal March that produced only four wins and the NHL's worst cold streak and began April with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers at the Joe Louis Arena.
The Wings outscored the Panthers, 2-1, in the shootout, with goals from Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler. Hudler's 25th goal tied the score early in the third period and sent the game to overtime.
The win puts Detroit in the 2nd place in the Central Division with 99 points behind St. Louis (106 pts.). In the Western Conference, the Red Wings currently hold the 4th spot, but right behind are division rivals Nashville & Chicago (each with 98 pts.). Detroit's next game will be against the Blues this Wednesday night in St. Louis at 7:30 pm.
