Overtime thrillers highlight Thursday's Game 1 action
Marian Gaborik and Brian Boyle scored minutes apart in the 2nd period as the top-seeded New York Rangers rolled to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
In a scoreless game through three periods, Chris Kelly scored on a long slapshot 1:18 into overtime to give the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of the Eastern Conferece first-round series.
Martin Havlat returned from a hamstring injury that sidelined him nearly for half the season and scored his second goal of the game 3:34 into double overtime that gave the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals.
Taylor Pyatt and Antoine Vermette scored goals in the second period and Martin Hanzal knocked in the game winner 9:29 into overtime as the Phoenix Coyotes opened the Western Conference quarterfinal series with a 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
