Bruins, Rangers, & Blues avoid OT to take 2-1 leads
Zdeno Chara scored the tie-breaking goal during a 4-on-4 play with less than 2 minutes left as the reigning Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins finally figured out playoff rookie goalie Braden Holtby by beating the Washington Capitals, 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves for his fourth NHL playoff shutout and Brian Boyle scored for the third straight game to break a scoreless game as the New York Rangers beat the Ottawa Senators, 1-0 to lead the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series 2-1.
Patrik Berglund scored the first of St. Louis' three-man-advantage goals as the Blues throttled the San Jose Sharks until the closing minutes of a 4-3 victory in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinals to take a 2-1 series lead.
