David Legwand scored 13 seconds into the third period and it was just enough for the Nashville Predators to advance to the Western Conference semifinals with a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 5.

Jiri Hudler scored the only goal for Detroit in the second period. The last time the Red Wings had an early postseason exit was 2006 in a six-game first-round loss to Edmonton.

The end comes just two weeks after a regular season that saw the Red Wings celebrate several highlights, such as winning an NHL-record 23 straight games at home and seeing gaolie Jimmy Howard named to his first ever All-Star Game.

Several questions will be answered during the long off-season as to whether several key players will stay, especially team captain Nicklas Lidstrom, and who will be picked in this year's NHL Draft on Friday, June 22nd.
