Capitals hang on to force Game 7 with Rangers, 2-1
Alex Ovechkin rebounded from a rare zero-shot performance by scoring after 88 seconds and Braden Holtby made 30 saves as the Washington Capitals held on to beat the top-seeded New York Rangers, 2-1 to tie the Eastern Conference semifinal series at three games apiece.
It's de ja vu for both teams when it comes to Game 7. New York's first-round series against Ottawa went seven games and Washington's opening series against Boston, last season's Stanley Cup champion, went the distance.
The two teams will meet at Madison Square Garden in New York City this Saturday night to determine who will face the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Finals. Washington hasn't been that far since 1998; the N.Y. Rangers haven't since 1997.
