Tigers struggled in the seventh giving up four runs off of starter Justin Verlander losing to the Indians 5-3. Detroit led 1-0 after one Austin Jackson had three hits and Delmon Young homered in the sixth inning, Tigers lost for only the fourth time in 18 games.

It was Verlander's (11-6) 63rd straight start of at least six innings. He dropped to 40-12 over that span, which is the longest streak since Hall of Famer Steve Carlton's 69-game run for Philadelphia in 1979-82.
