Spartans squeeze by Boise State in season opener, 17-13
Le'Veon Bell ran for a career-high 210 yards on 44 carries that helped the #13 Michigan State Spartans outlast the #24 Boise State Broncos, 17-13. The junior's second touchdown of the night - a 5-yard run with 8:12 remaining - helped the Spartans avoid an upset on a night Bell outgained the Broncos all by himself.
In addition, Michigan State's defense became the first defense since Washington State’s in 1997 to hold Boise State without an offensive touchdown.
MSU also set a record with a crowd of 78,709, which was the largest opening-day crowd at Spartan Stadium since 1990. Next Saturday, the Spartans travel to Central Michigan for an afternoon showdown.
