Tigers get swept by red hot Angels 3-2
The Detroit Tigers were swept in their three game weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels, losing a close one Sunday by the score of 3-2. Zack Greinke pitched seven strong innings for the Angels, giving up just two runs on five hits with one walk, and seven strikeouts.
Rookie phenom Mike Trout hit a leadoff homer for the second straight day to get things started for the Angels, and Alberto Callaspo hit a two-run bomb in the second inning to round out the scoring for the Angels. The Tigers got their runs on a solo homer by Andy Dirks in the fourth inning, and a RBI double from Brennan Boesch scoring Delmon Young in the seventh inning. Ernesto Frieri got out of a jam in the eighth, striking out Andy Dirks with a runner on second base. Frieri then got Jhonny Peralta to ground out in the ninth with two runners aboard giving the Angels the sixth straight win. Anibal Sanchez pitched seven solid innings for Detroit giving up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts with no walks.
Detroit now heads to Chicago for a four game series against the White Sox. They send Rick Porcello (9-11, 4.58) to the mound in game one to face Jose Quintana (5-4, 3.68) The Tigers now trail the White Sox in the AL Central by 2 games.
