The Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees at Comerica Park on Tuesday night 2-1 to go up 3-0 in the ALCS, putting them on the brink of the World Series. Delmon Young started the scoring for Detroit with a homer in the fourth inning, and Miguel Cabrera drove in Quintin Berry in the fifth to give the Tigers their runs. Justin Verlander pitched a shutout into the ninth inning before surrendering a home-run to Eduardo Nunez. Detroit then went to Phil Coke who gave up two consecutive singles before striking out Raul Ibanez for his second save of the series. Before that homer by Nunez Tigers starters had went 37 innings without giving up an earned run, a new record. Detroit can win its second pennant in seven years on Wednesday night when they send Max Scherzer to the mound to face C.C. Sabathia for a 8:00 P.M. start.
