Verlander pitches another gem as Tigers beat Nationals, 6-1
Detroit’s ace Justin Verlander pitched six scoreless innings, leading the Tigers past the Washington Nationals 6-1 in a game in which Magglio Ordonez was scratched from the lineup because of a sore left hamstring.
Verlander allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked one.
In five spring starts, he has allowed just two runs in 21 innings for a 0.86 ERA.
Verlander has one more exhibition start remaining before pitching the Tigers’ opener against the Yankees in New York on March 31.
Don Kelly, who had two hits, replaced Ordonez in the lineup.
