Miguel Cabrera, Jhonny Peralta, & Austin Jackson each hit homeruns, Max Scherzer struck out 10 batters, and Prince Fielder made the final out on a pop out from pinch-hitter Jayson Nix to give the Detroit Tigers an 8-1 victory over the New York Yankees to sweep the ALCS & become the 2012 American League Champions. The Tigers are headed to their 11th World Series in franchise history. Delmon Young became the first player with four game-winning RBIs in one postseason series and as a result, he became the American League's MVP.

It will be the Tigers' first trip to the World Series since 2006 and quite possibly set up a rematch against St. Louis of the National League, who currently lead the NLCS. Cabrera and Peralta’s two-run homeruns to left field in the 4th inning was key in the Tigers’ sweep of the Yankees. Austin Jackson then homered to left field in the 7th inning and Jhonny Peralta hit his second homerun in the 8th inning.

Scherzer cashed in yet another dominant performance by a Tigers’ starter this postseason, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 10 over 5 & 2/3 innings. He walked two and didn’t allow his first hit until the 6th inning, when Eduardo Nunez led off with a triple.

All that awaits the Tigers now is an opponent in this year's World Series as the NLCS between the Cardinals & the Giants continue. The World Series is set to begin this Wednesday night with Game 1 to be played at either St. Louis or San Francisco, due to the National League winning the All-Star Game back in mid-July.

After the ALCS was swept away, the St. Louis Cardinals got the better of the San Francisco Giants with an 8-3 win to lead the National League Championship Series, 3-1, in the best-of-seven series with a chance to wrap it up at home.

Matt Holliday, Jon Jay, and Yadier Molina had two RBIs apiece to lead a 12-hit outburst by a team that batted just .198 through the first three games of the series.

The Cardinals can close it out at home this Friday night in Game 5. The Cardinals' Lance Lynn faces Giants lefty Barry Zito and a St. Louis win would set up a 2006 World Series rematch with the new American League champion Detroit Tigers.
