The San Francisco Giants took a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series when they scored twice in the 2nd inning to shutout the Detroit Tigers, 2-0, at Comerica Park.

Detroit became only the second team since 1921 to be shut out in consecutive World Series games. The Tigers have totaled a mere three runs and 15 hits while hitting .165 in three games, and were shut out twice in a row for the first time since April 2008.

No team in Major League Baseball has ever comeback from being down 3-0 in the World Series. However, in postseason play, only one team in history has overcome a 3-0 deficit in the postseason and that was the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees.

The Tigers had a golden opportunity to score some runs in the 5th inning, but with two out, Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong made Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera hit a pop fly with the bases loaded to end the inning.

Detroit will have a chance to, at least, avoid a sweep this Sunday night at Comerica Park for Game 4 when they send Maz Scherzer to the mound against San Francisco's Matt Cain.
