Prince Fielder's homerun helps Tigers defeat Royals, 6-3
Prince Fielder's two-run homerun led to a 6-3 Detroit Tigers' win over the Kansas City Royals and reduced their magic number to 10 in the AL Central Divison, despite Cleveland defeating the Chicago White Sox, 3-1.
Justin Verlander (13-11) pitched into the 7th inning, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out seven. Fielder with his three RBI's brought him 102 for the season for his second straight year in a Tiger uniform.
Joaquin Benoit pitched in the 8th inning and closed out the game for the 19th save in 19 attempts. Doug Fister is up next to start as the Tigers face the Royals again at Comerica Park this Saturday night at 7 pm.
