DETROIT MERCY LOSES IN 3 OT'S TO STONEY BROOK 104-102

Jameel Warney finished with 32 points, including a layup with five seconds left in triple overtime to help lift Stony Brook past the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team, 104-102, at Calihan Hall as part of the 2K Sports Classic. The Titans had the final shot, but just like Saturday Juwan Howard Jr.'s three-pointer fell short at the buzzer.

The Titans trailed by three 100-97, before battling back to take a 101-100 lead with 2:25 left in the third overtime. Stony Brook then took the lead again 102-101, before Howard made a free throw to tie it 102. Warney then grabbed an offensive rebound and made the put back with five seconds left to win the game.

Detroit (3-4) was led by senior co-captain Evan Bruinsma who had a career day with 32 points – including 20-of-22 from the free throw line – with 14 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Howard also had another outstanding performance with 25 points – an new career-high – with seven assists, three rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Carlton Brundidge also pitched in 19 points with five rebounds and two assists, while freshman guard Matthew Grant added 11 points.
