DETROIT MERCY WOMAN TEAM STRUGGLES AND LOSE TO GREEN BAY 84-72
Senior Senee Shearer drained six 3-pointers and sophomore Tayelor McCalister netted a career-high 24 points, but a strong start by Green Bay in the second half was too much to overcome as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team lost to the Phoenix, 84-72, on Saturday afternoon in historic Calihan Hall.
Shearer ended with 20 points and tied her career high with seven rebounds as well as a milestone passing head coach Autumn Rademacher for second place in school history with 202 career triples, just 15 away from Michelle James' school record 217.
Along with her career high in points, McCalister also grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and handed out four assists coming off the bench.
The Titans saw Green Bay (12-7, 5-2 HL) jump out to an early 8-2 lead and the Phoenix extended that to 19-6 at the 13:11 mark in the first. Detroit (3-18, 0-8 HL) then made its initial run to pull within four, 22-18, as Shearer nailed three 3-pointers during the 12-3 spurt.
