3-2 wins in Game 4 lead Cardinals & Giants to 2014 NLCS
Matt Adams' three-run homerun in the 7th inning led the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers and a fourth consecutive trip to the National League Championship Series.
While the Cardinals advanced to their ninth NLCS in 15 years, the defeat was a huge disappointment for the NL West champion Dodgers, who finished the regular season with a $256 million payroll that was $40 million higher than any other team. The NLCS will begin this Saturday night.
Extra innings were not necessary this time as Joe Panik scored the go-ahead run in the 7th inning on Aaron Barrett's bases-loaded wild pitch as the San Francisco Giants rallied against the Washington Nationals, 3-2, to return to the 2014 National League Championship Series. The wild-card Giants won 3-1 in the best-of-five Division Series by also scoring on a walk and a groundout.
San Francisco will now head to St. Louis to play the Cardinals for Game 1 of the NLCS. It's a rematch of the 2012 NLCS, where the Giants rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Cardinals on the way to their second World Series championship in three years.
