Kenneth Faried had 22 points and 17 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets opened the 2014-15 season with an 89-79 victory over Detroit, thus spoiling Stan Van Gundy's first game as the Pistons' head coach.

Josh Smith, Detroit's leading scorer last season, had 25 points to lead the Pistons and D.J. Augustin finished with 15 points, but it was not enough as the Pistons managed only one basket in the last three minutes. Brandon Jennings did not play in the 4th quarter and was held to only four points.

Detroit will attempt to bounce back when they travel to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves this Thursday night at 8 pm before their home opener this Saturday night at the Palace.
