Spartans, Eagles, & Chippewas come away with easy wins
Matt Costello had 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Michigan State Spartans cruised to a 87-52 victory over the Loyola Ramblers to win their home opener for the 38th straight season. Branden Dawson and Marvin Clark Jr. each led the Spartans (2-1) with 15 points. MSU's next game is this Monday night at 7 pm in East Lansing against Santa Clara.
Karrington Ward scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Eastern Michigan Eagles to a 71-62 win over the Horizon League's Youngstown State Penguins. Anali Okoloji and Raven Lee added 16 points apiece for the Eagles (3-0), who will attempt to stay undefeated against UNC-Greensboro this Saturday night at 7 pm in Ypsilanti.
John Simmons scored 17 points and Rayshawn Simmons dished out nine assists as the Central Michigan Chippewas opened their home tournament with a dominating 76-48 win over the Maine Black Bears. Austin Keel and Luke Meyer each added 10 points apiece for Central Michigan, who shot an 59% from the field and hit 13-of-26 three-point attempts. The Chippewas will be back in action at home this Sunday afternoon at 12:30 pm against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
