Rough day for Titan basketball
At Calihan Hall, the women suffered a heartbreaking loss to Cleveland State, 74-71. Sophomore Cherridy Thorton led the team with 17 points, but the combination of Cleveland State guard Shawnita Garland's 32 points, which included five 3-pointers (most were in the 2nd half), and wide open shots that just would not fall in doomed Detroit. The Titan women (11-14, 5-9 HL) will attempt to bounce back from this defeat when they head to Chicago next weekend to face UIC (Thursday at 8 pm ET) & Loyola (Saturday at 3 pm ET).
Meanwhile in Des Moines, Iowa, the men could not handle Drake after the Bulldogs came out to a 11-0 run late in the 2nd half as they lost, 84-76. Chase Simon led Detroit with 23 points, along with three others in double digits. The Titans will close out the regular season this Friday night at 7 pm in Dayton, Ohio against Horizon League rival Wright State. If Detroit wins, they will secure the 5th seed in the Horizon League Tournament. Until then, if Green Bay loses any of their remaining three games this week, the Titans will, at least, secure the 6th seed & host a 1st round game at Calihan Hall on Tuesday, March 1st.
