UDM basketball season continues with NIT & WBI action
Even though they're not in the Big Dance, the Detroit Titan basketball teams will see action in the postseason of 2013. The men's team will travel to Tempe, Arizona this Wednesday as a six-seed to take on the third-seeded Arizona State Sun Devils in the first-round of the NIT. The game is set for 10:00 p.m. ET at the Wells Fargo Arena. Whoever comes out on top will meet the winner of #2 Baylor and #7 Long Beach State.
The Titans and Arizona State (22-12, 9-9 PAC-12) will be meeting for only the fourth time in history, with the Sun Devils leading the all-time series, 2-1. The last time Detroit faced them was 1995 at the ASU Tribune Classic when they defeated Arizona State, 71-66.
As for the women, they return to Calihan Hall to be a part of history. For the first time since the early years of Titan basketball, the Detroit Titans will make it back-to-back years in the postseason as UDM accepted an invitation to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). They will be the top seed in the bracket's East Region and will face the Belmont Bruins (Ohio Valley Conference) for the first time ever this Thursday night at 7 pm ET.
Should the Titans defeat Belmont, they will host the winner of the Northern Kentucky-College of Charleston either this Saturday or Sunday at Calihan Hall.
