Oakland struggles against Maryland on the road, 72-56

Jake Layman had 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to help the Maryland Terrapins extend their winning streak to five games with a 72-56 victory over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Freshman Melo Trimble was 5-of-6 from three-point range and had 17 points for Maryland (12-1).

Jalen Hayes scored 13 points and Kahlil Felder added 12 points for Oakland (4-10). Dante Williams and Corey Petros each scored 11 points for the Grizzlies, who lost five consecutive games.

Once 2015 arrives, Oakland will begin Horizon League play this Friday night at home when they host Valparaiso at 7 pm. Meanwhile, Maryland will get their Big Ten season underway before the new year when they travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State this Tuesday evening at 5 pm.
