Big Ten men victorious; MAC & Horizon close out regular season
Travis Trice scored 18 of his 21 points in the 2nd half as the Michigan State Spartans held back a furious Indiana comeback to secure a 74-72 victory over the Hoosiers.
The Spartans (21-10, 12-6 Big Ten) have won two straight & six of their last eight games to have a shot at the #3 seed in next week's Big Ten tournament. The Big Ten regular season ends this Sunday.
Max Bielfeldt ended up with 14 points & 11 rebounds and Aubrey Dawkins added a career-high 31 points to lift the Michigan Wolverines to a 79-69 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The Wolverines shot 14-of-31 from three-point range. Michigan will enter the 2015 Big Ten tournament as the #8 seed and will play this Thursday in the 1st round at Chicago.
Trailing by six with five minutes remaining in the game, the Eastern Michigan Eagles rallied in the closing minutes to take a 93-86 victory in their final regular season game over the Central Michigan Chippewas at McGuirk Arena.
Cha Sweeney became the 19th player all-time in EMU history to reach the 1,000-point club for Eastern women's basketball. The sophomore guard recorded 20 points in the Eagles' win over Central to become the second-fastest player in school history to reach the grand total.
With the win, EMU locked up the #6 seed in the 2015 MAC Tournament and will host the #11 Kent State this Monday evening at 5 pm. at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti.
