Titans lock in 5th seed with big win over Wright State
During the week, the Titans needed Green Bay to lose, at least, one game to clinch a 6th seed in this year's Horizon League Tournament. Since Green Bay beat Valparaiso in overtime last Monday and took down Youngstown State on Thursday, Detroit had to take matters into their own hands.
In front of an ESPNU audience, the Titans did one better and clinched the 5th seed by defeating the Wright State Raiders on the road, 77-67. Chris Blake led Detroit with 21 points (15 were in the 1st half), including going 4-for-6 from the 3-point line. Eli Holman (19 pts.) & Nick Minnerath (13 pts.) also contributed with 11 rebounds each, along with Chase Simon with 15 points.
With the win, the Titans (16-15) finish the Horizon League season at 10-8 and will host a first round game this Tuesday night (March 1st) at Calihan Hall at 7 pm against either Loyola or Green Bay, depending on what happens on Saturday. If Loyola losses to Butler, it will be the Ramblers. If it's the Phoenix of Green Bay, they would have to lose to Cleveland State with a Loyola win against Butler.
