GAME 1 - Caps win at the last second; Ducks school Calgary
Joel Ward drove the winning goal past Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist with 1.3 seconds left in the game to give the Washington Capitals a 2-1 victory over New York in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Alex Ovechkin opened the scoring with a powerplay goal with 1:47 remaining in the 1st period and goalie Braden Holtby made 31 saves for Washington.
Game 2 is set for this Saturday afternoon at 12:30 pm from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
In Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series, the Anaheim Ducks scored three goals on their first 14 shots to earn a convincing 6-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Corey Perry had two goals and two assists for the top-seeded Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and three assists while Anaheim also got goals from Patrick Maroon, Matt Beleskey, and Emerson Etem.
West semis will resume this Sunday night at 10 pm inside the Honda Center in Anaheim.
