Offense lights up the board again as Tigers defeat Cubs, 15-8
Thanks to National League rules, Tigers starting pitcher Daniel Norris hit a homerun in his first career plate appearance and Nick Castellanos went deep twice, including a grand slam homerun, as the Detroit Tigers had an encore performance with a 15-8 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Norris became the 19th pitcher and the first since 2011 to a homerun in his first major league at-bat, when he lined a two-run HR in the 2nd inning. However, he had to leave the game in the 5th inning due to a strained right oblique and some speculate that he'll be headed to the disabled list soon. Norris also became the first American League pitcher to hit a homerun at Wrigley Field and the third since World War II to hit a homerun in his first plate appearance.
Detroit set season highs in runs and hits (21). It was also the second time this season that they reached double digits in scoring in consecutive games. Rajai Davis went deep and reliever Neftali Feliz (3-3) got the win in a game that lasted 3 hours & 48 minutes.
The Tigers will travel back to the Motor City to host a four-game weekend series against the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park. The first game is set for this Thursday night at 7 pm.
