Titan women take center stage as HL tourney begins Monday
With the men out of tournament contention, the Titan women are the last hope for the University of Detroit Mercy. Seeded 7th, the Titans will host the 1st round of the Horizon League Tournament on Monday, March 7th at Calihan Hall against the 10th seed Valparaiso Crusaders. The game is set to begin at 7 pm. From there, the rest of the tournament will most likely be held in Green Bay, WI, where the Phoenix earned the #1 seed. With an overall record of 12-17, winning the HL tournament will be the only chance the Detroit Titans have of makiing the NCAA Tournament.
HORIZON LEAGUE WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT - FIRST ROUND
#7 Detroit vs. #10 Valparaiso
#8 Loyola vs. #9 Youngstown State
In the quarterfinals, to be played on Wednesday, March 9th, #1 Green Bay & #2 Butler will face the first round winners while two other games will take place...
#3 Cleveland State vs. #6 UIC
#4 Wright State vs. #5 Milwaukee
The semifinals are set for Friday, March 11, followed by the championship on Sunday, March 13th. Each game in the first round & the quarterfinals will be hosted by the higher seed, while the semifinals & the championship will be played on the campus of the highest seed remaining.
Also on tap for Monday, the men & women of Oakland University will compete in their respective semifinals of the Summit League Tournament. In addition, eight conference champions (4 men & 4 women) will be crowned & earn automatic bids into the NCAA tournaments.
