Red Wings fall hard to Lightning in Tampa Bay, 6-2
Erik Condra ended a 20-game drought with a pair of goals that gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.
Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm scored for Detroit, who fell into a tie with the Flyers ( 83 pts.) for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference with a little help from Columbus sending Philadelphia into overtime before losing in the shootout. Even though they hold the tiebreaker over the Flyers, the Red Wings remain two points behind the New York Islanders ( 85 pts.), who currently has the first wild card spot.
While all eyes will be on the Islanders game against Ottawa this Wednesday night, Detroit looks to improve their playoff position against Montreal in another Original Six matchup this Thursday night at 7:30 pm.
