Verlanders reaches 2,000 strikeouts as Tigers beat Twins, 6-3
Starting pitcher Justin Verlander struck out 10 batters, including the 2,000th of his career, to help the Detroit Tigers sweep another 3-game series against the Minnesota Twins, 6-3.
Verlander (3-4) allowed six hits and three runs over 7 & 1/3 innings while matching his season high in strikeouts. He joined Mickey Lolich as the two pitchers in Tigers history with 2,000 career strikeouts, and became the 76th in MLB history to reach the milestone.
After taking Thursday off, Detroit will remain home at Comerica Park to attempt to stretch their four-game winning streak against Tampa Bay in a 3-game weekend series, which begins this Friday night at 7 pm.
