Western pulls off huge win over NW; Michigan crushes Hawaii
Zach Terrell threw for 218 yards & a touchdown and Jamauri Bogan had a 1-yard touchdown run on 4th down to secure the Western Michigan Broncos of a huge 22-21 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats.
Terrell was 26-of-36 as WMU's offense controlled the play throughout and held the ball for 39 minutes. Northwestern's quarterback Clayton Thorson completed 15-of-22 passes for 196 yards, but his fumble at the goal line in the final minutes thwarted the Wildcats' comeback attempt.
The Broncos (1-0) will return home to Kalamazoo next Saturday (Sept. 10) to host North Carolina Central under the lights at 7 pm.
Wilton Speight led the Michigan Wolverines down the field on a 98-yard touchdown drive, capping it with his first of three straight touchdown passes in a 63-3 destruction of the Hawaii Warriors.
The win is their most lopsided victory since 1975 and did not punt throughout the game. Hawaii (0-2) avoided a shutout with Rigoberto Sanchez's 55-yard field goal early in the 4th quarter.
After helping the state of Michigan go 5-for-5 in the first week of the season, the Wolverines will remain home in Ann Arbor to host Central Florida next Saturday (Sept. 10) at noon.
