NHL releases Red Wings' 2011-12 regular season schedule

Before the NHL Draft can get underway this Friday night, the National Hockey League wasted no time in releasing the regular season schedule for the 2011-2012 season, a week after the Stanley Cup Finals ended. The Detroit Red Wings' quest for 21 straight years in the playoffs begin on Friday, October 7th when they host the Ottawa Senators at the Joe Louis Arena.

Other games highlighted within the Wings' season include....

- Thursday, October 13: The Western Conference champion Vancouver Canucks pay a visit to the Joe.

- Saturday, October 22: Red Wings travel to Washington to face the Capitals, who last season were the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

- Friday, October 28: Detroit seeks revenge for their downfall in last season's Western Conference semifinals against the San Jose Sharks at the Joe.

- Friday, November 25: It will indeed be Black Fiday when the Red Wings go to Boston to face a sea of black jerseys in the form of the Stanley Cup champion Bruins.

- Wednesday, November 30: Stanley Cup Champion & Red Wings legend Steve Yzerman returns to the Joe Louis Arena when he brings his Tampa Bay Lightning to town.

- Saturday, December 10: Whether they're the Jets or not, Winnipeg (formely the Alanta Thrashers) makes their long-awaited return to the Joe Louis Arena.

- Sunday, January 29: Red Wings are voted in to participate in the 2012 All-Star Game, which will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for the 1st time in history.

- Saturday, April 7: Regular season ends with the Red Wings facing their arch-rival Chicago Blackhawks at the Joe.
