Tigers rally past Kansas City once again for a 5-4 victory
For the second time in as many days, the Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the Kansas City Royals, this time by the final score of 5-4.
Rick Porcello pitched seven solid innings to keep Detroit close while Jose Valverde pitched the 9th inning to earn his 40th save. His 40 straight saves is the longest streak in franchise history during a single season. Valverde joins Todd Jones as the only other Detroit closer to hit the 40-save mark.
Three players drove in three runs in the eighth inning — highlighted by doubles from Victor Martinez and Wilson Betemit. Also hot at the plate was Miguel Cabrera, who went 2-for-4, including knocking in another double.
