Yankees on the verge of clinching the AL East
Today, the New York Yankees could win the AL East division. Starting at 1 pm at Yankee Stadium, New York plays Tampa Bay in a doubleheader and with their magic number at 3, the Yankees would need to win both games plus have Boston lose to Baltimore tonight and the AL East is theirs.
NATIONAL LEAGUE - Milwaukee (Central) & Arizona (West) have the magic number of 3 could win their respective divisions by, at least, Thursdsy. The Brewers continue to build mometum towards the playoffs while the Diamondbacks struggle to find their rythm, despite San Francisco losing as well. The Atlanta Braves have the magic number of 6 in the wild card race, but St. Louis is gaining ground, trailing only 2 1/2 games behind.
AMERICAN LEAGUE - In the AL West, Texas has the magic number of 4 and the L.A. Angels are running out of time, trailing the Rangers by 3 1/2 games. The Rangers are also trying to keep pace with the AL Central champion Detroit Tigers for the #2 seed in the playoffs. Meanwhile in the wild card race, Boston has the magic number of 7, but Tampa Bay is rapidly catching up to the Red Sox, trailing only 2 games behind. The Rays could gain significant ground if they beat the Yankees today in a doubleheader and have the Red Sox lose tonight.
