Yankees take down Rays twice to win the AL East

Jorge Posada came off the bench and helped the New York Yankees to yet another first-place finish, hitting a tiebreaking, two-run single in the eighth inning. The big hit propelled New York to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays by identical 4-2 scores in a day-night doubleheader, clinching the AL East title, thanks in part to Boston losing to Baltimore. If the Yankees continue the momentum, they will be the #1 seed when the playoffs begin.

NATIONAL LEAGUE - Arizona are back to their winning ways after defeating Pittsburgh, but with San Francisco also winning, the Diamondbacks' magic number in the NL West is down to 2. Tonight, Arizona has the night off, but their number could go down to 1 if San Francisco loses to the L.A. Dodgers. In the Central, Milwaukee's magic number is stuck at 3 after losing to the Chicago Cubs, but it could go down to 2 if St. Louis loses to the N.Y. Mets tonight. As for the wild card race, Atlanta has the slim lead with the magic number at 6, but St. Louis, with their win over the Mets last night, now trail the Braves by only 1 1/2 games.

AMERICAN LEAGUE - In the AL West, with both Texas & the L.A. Angels winning, the Rangers lead the division with the magic number of 3. Meanwhile in the wild card race, Boston still has the magic number of 5, but now they have Tampa Bay & the Angels right behind them by 2 1/2 games.
