The Detroit Tigers lost a close one today to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of their weekend series 4-3.
the Pirates got off to a quick start against Detroit starter Drew Smyly with Andrew McCutchen hitting a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to go up 2-0. The Tigers made it 2-2 in the third inning with a two-run homer from Prince Fielder. Pittsburgh added two more runs in the fifth inning when McCutchen hit his second home-run of the game off of Smyly, driving in Josh Harrison to go up 4-2. The Tigers added a run in the seventh inning when Miguel Cabrera scored from third on a passed ball by Rod Barajas making it 4-3, but were unable to score anymore, as they stranded ten runners in the game.
A.J. Burnett pitched six innings surrendering only two runs on seven hits. The Pirates bullpen was strong sending three relievers to the mound, with Joel Hanrahan pitching a scoreless ninth for the save. Detroit had a chance in the ninth, with Cabrera aboard, Prince Fielder struck out to end the game. The tigers try to take the series with an afternoon game on Sunday sending Max Scherzer RHP (2-3, 6.26 ERA) against Kevin Correia RHP (1-4, 4.50 ERA).
