Brennan Boesch and Prince Fielder both had three hits and the Tigers outlasted the Twins 10-6. Minnesota had a 2-0 nothing after one inning then Detroit put four in the second led by Alex Avila's two run double. Then increased their lead to 6-2 in the fifth chasing Twins starter Anthony Swarzak. Tigers finished their scoring with three in the seventh, Delmon Young had also three included in Detroit's 16-hit attack.
Drew Smyly pitched five innings for the win (2-1), while Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Max Scherzer pitches later today against the Twins in Minneapolis.
